let the world be filled with poets
let the sky be filled with blue
let your face be filled with smiling
let you words be filled with true
when the fools and thieves beset you
let your heart be filled with strong
and when everything is hopeless
let your laugh be filled with long
let your laugh become a lyric
and your neighbors hear the call
though we may not all be singers
there is music in us all
you may sing a song of grackle
or a song of mockingbird
be it dark or be it pretty
just be sure your song is heard
and you need not be a Shakespeare
and you need not be a Frost
let us simply speak our verses
and the tune will not be lost
nothing here will last forever
that applies to good and bad
to be serious is silly
to be sorrowful is sad
with the haiku and the sonnets
let some doggerel slip through
let the world be filled with poets
let the sky be filled with blue
